Ready Player One Screenwriter Zak Penn Working On Matrix Movie

Oh, yeah? You remember that Matrix film that was supposed to be happening? Yeah, in the midst of all the films that have hit in recent months, I’ve kind of forgotten all about it too. However, if there’s someone who is unlikely to forget about the flick anytime soon, it’s the studio Warner Bros.

So what’s the current status? While we don’t know exactly how things are coming along with the movie, we now know someone who’s involved. Zak Penn, the scribe who had a hand in films like The Avengers, X-Men 2, and X-Men: The Last Stand — not to mention the upcoming Ready Player One — is working on the movie, as he revealed to Screen Rant:

“I’ve been working on Matrix right now. Which is in… a phase right now. That’s a franchise I desperately want to see brought back and, I can’t go in to too much detail, but I’ve been harassing Warner Bros. for years to try to get it going again so that’s one thing I’m working on and I’ve been working on a bunch of other things too.”

When last we heard, this film would be a reboot of the original, starring Michael B. Jordan, but who knows if that’s the case anymore. What Penn was clear on a year ago is that this is NOT a reboot of the original film, so we’ll have to wait and see just how he plans on continuing the lore.

So what do you think about Penn taking on the film? Let us know your thoughts down below!
