Resident Evil Series In Development At Netflix

This week is the release of the remake of the 1998 classic Capcom game Resident Evil 2. Since 2002 there have been six films produced by Constantin Film that have grossed $1.2 billion worldwide. The latest of these was Resident Evil: The Final Chapter in January of 2017. Since that time there have been many discussions about the reboot of the franchise, which included a television series. Now it looks like that television series is close.

According to Deadline, Netflix is developing a scripted series that is based on the popular horror franchise that will also come from Constantin Film. It is said that the series will be a Netflix global original and the search is currently underway for a showrunner to take on the adaptation.

The report also states that the plan for the series is to expand the Resident Evil universe and deepen the existing mythology that has been created by the popular video games. Just like the films that were made, the Netflix series will keep the same basic premise of following the dark inner workings of the infamous Umbrella Corporation and the new world order that was caused by the outbreak of the T-virus. It is expected to include a lot of the signature elements we are used to from the Resident Evil franchise which include action sequences and some Easter eggs.

With many other streaming service competing for attention, adding the Resident Evil franchise would be a great way to attract viewers. Especially if they are going to continue to roll our re-makes and new Resident Evil games. Would you be excited to see a Resident Evil series? Let us know in the comment section below!
