Rian Johnson’s Knives Out Set To Hit $22M-$25M In Opening Thanksgiving Weekend

If there’s anything we can agree on, it’s that Rian Johnson is an indisputable figure whose body of work, especially Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is universally-loved. Given that The Last Jedi marked an increase in his fame and overall fan reception, one couldn’t help but wonder if it would have a solid impact on whatever his next project would ultimately be.

His next movie, Knives Out, has been a critical juggernaut, so far scoring a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 100 reviews, and I’ve been wondering if the murder mystery film would do well with mainstream filmgoing audiences.

The film will be opening against Disney’s Frozen II, but I don’t think anyone thinks that will have much impact on Knives Out, given how different they are. According to Deadline, the Rian Johnson caper will be set to make $22 million to $25 million over the five-day Thanksgiving opening (meaning Wednesday to Sunday).

Given that 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express opened around the same period with a $28.6 million opener, it proves that the market is ripe for Johnson’s film.
