Ridley Scott In Talks To Direct Merlin Saga For Disney

If somehow King Arthur: Legend of the Sword wasn’t enough to scare you off the legend of King Arthur, we may have another interpretation of the age-old story in the very near future.

According to a report from Variety, the veteran filmmaker Ridley Scott’s Scott Free production is in negotiations to produce The Merlin Saga for Disney. They will likely be one of the producers, and on board to write is The Lord of the Rings screenwriter Philippa Boyens.

As of right now, Scott is in talks to direct the film, and if this deal is closed, it could very well be his next production.

While I personally have been exhausted by the countless retellings of King Arthur, 12-book Merlin Saga from author T.A. Barron is one of those retellings I may take exception with. As the title indicates, it actually has to do with Merlin himself, and not actually King Arthur. In the story, we get to see a young (blind!) Merlin, who can freakin’ fly. It was a book series I enjoyed greatly when I was younger, and it’s a perfect match for Disney to take on.

Interestingly enough, Disney is also hard at work at adapting their own animated Sword in the Stone for the big screen, so I hope you like your Arthurian legends.
