Rob Liefeld Doesn’t Think Titans Should Have Dropped The F-Bomb In Their Trailer (Exclusive) | SDCC 2018

While Rob Liefeld may be a comic book creator with countless characters credited to his name, he is also a huge, avid fan of the work being done on the page and on the big and small screens alike. As such, he has a lot of great opinions about some of the stuff that’s coming out of last week’s San Diego Comic-Con, including the trailer for DC Universe’s Titans.

On the whole, Liefeld expressed nothing but happiness about how they handled the show — which he has a stake in, since Dawn Granger is one of his creations — but on the marketing front, there is one aspect he’d change if it were up to him, as he revealed to me in a one-on-one interview at the convention:

“And the F-bomb to Batman is the … I was like, wow. We just got that right out in the open. Like, if I was to re-do it … They’re not gonna wanna hear this. I woulda waited … I wouldn’t have put that in the first trailer. I think it — not derailed — but it took a lot of focus. It’s sucking up all the oxygen, and my kids didn’t mention that. But look, I think they’re trying to tell you that they’re not Arrow, and they’re not Flash, you know. And maybe they did it in kind of an overtly, you know, aggressive manner. But you know, the bottom line is, cream rises to the top. And I’ve seen enough of this show, and I know that the cream rises to the top with this one.”

Now, keep in mind, Liefeld was over-the-moon about the rest of what he saw on screen, but in terms of marketing…it may have been a bit more distracting. Sure, on one hand, you can understand DC Universe’s desire to separate themselves from the CW shows, but I do have to agree that it did seem to be the talk of the town, and not always in the best way.

From what it sounds like, Liefeld doesn’t have a problem with this being shown off later, but as a first impression, it may have been a bit too harsh. What do you think of Liefeld’s comments? Sound off down below and look forward to my full interview with the comic book creator later today!
