RUMOR: Joker Sequel In The Works?

Joker's Todd Phillips Courted For Larger DC Role By New WB/D Boss Zaslav

Remember when Joker was just an interesting little experiment over at Warner Bros.? To simply utilize one of the comic book characters and inject a little bit of that prestige genre into it? Who would’ve thought it would be on its way to being the highest-rated R-rated film of all-time? It was a prospect I didn’t fully expect, and it’s one not very many others seemed to expect either.

That being said, both Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix seemed open to returning back to this character (even though it would mean no Batman), and with how big of a success it is, Warner Bros. would be foolish not to strike while the iron’s hot, right?

Now, we have some first rumors surrounding a potential Joker sequel. We Got This Covered is reporting that the sequel is in early stages at Warners, and that it will continue with Arthur Fleck at its core. They go on to state that the film will take place several years later and will chronicle Flecks’ rise as a criminal in Gotham, which should juxtapose the first film’s descent into madness.

Of course, as with all rumors (and especially ones coming from this particular source), take it all with a grain of salt, but this isn’t exactly out of left field. When a sub-$70 million movie makes around $750 million (and a reported estimation of $500 million in profit), it’s worth looking at ways to capitalize on its success.

What do you think of this idea? Do you like the idea of seeing more Joker, or do you lament the fact that Hollywood can’t let a standalone film stand alone? Let us know your thoughts down below!
