Finding out the villain of the next big superhero flick is all part of the fun of having a superhero flick to begin with. After all, in the strictest story sense, a hero is only as good as his villain. This is especially true within the DC comics universe, which almost un-debatably has a much stronger rogues gallery of villains than Marvel. As such, it’s always a big deal whenever speculating as to who the next big bad of a franchise will be.
This is especially true of the JUSTICE LEAGUE film, which promises to take the franchise in bigger and bolder directions than any other DC film has ever gone. We got our first taste of that in BATMAN v SUPERMAN when Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman all faced off against Doomsday, one of the most powerful and memorable foes in the DC lore.
So who would they face in JUSTICE LEAGUE? BvS seemed to lay the groundwork for Darkseid, the DC equivalent of Thanos (though Darkseid did appear before Thanos in the comics), but most realized that using Darkseid so soon in the DCEU would ultimately be to the detriment of the franchise as a whole. So who is going to be the big bad of the JUSTICE LEAGUE?
If you don’t want to be spoiled, do not read on.
A recent report from Birth.Movies.Death claims to have the inside scoop.
According to the outlet, the baddie the Justice League will be facing was already revealed to us via the BATMAN v SUPERMAN deleted scene released online by WB. That’s right, Steppenwolf is going to be our foe.
If you don’t recall the scene in question, check it out below!
Needless to say, this interpretation of Steppenwolf is quite a departure from his appearance in the comics, as he looks decidedly more alien in the film. Take a look at how the character looks in the comics below.
The character is the uncle of Darkseid and a high-ranking leader of the Apokolips invasion force. The outlet speculates that they’ll be basing the character on the NEW 52 run of the character, where he invades Earth. Not only will Steppenwolf be in the film, but apparently, Darkseid will also have a presence, though he will not be a major antagonist. We’ll have to wait until JUSTICE LEAGUE:PART TWO for that story to be told.
What do you think of this news? Do you buy it? If so, what do you want to see from the big screen version of the character? Let us know in the comments down below!
JUSTICE LEAGUE: PART ONE is slated to hit theaters on November 17, 2017.
