Rumored Birds Of Prey Synopsis Hints At Batgirl-Less Film, Penguin No Longer Villain

If all goes according to plan over at Warner Bros., we can likely expect to see Birds of Prey hit production sometime early next year. Between the rumors of a fantastic script and the casting shortlist, they seem to be well on their way to actually getting this one in the can relatively soon (at least “soon” by film production standards).

But as we’d expect at this early stage, we still don’t have the faintest idea what to expect in terms of plot. As it stands, the DC Extended Universe is starting to go back and re-lay some foundation, so that each film doesn’t necessarily hint at what we can expect down the line. But, because us press are a hungry bunch, you can expect certain little tidbits to drop much sooner than anticipated. Such is the case with Birds of Prey.

DiscussingFilm has what they claim is a synopsis for the film. Check it out below:

“After splitting up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes — Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya — come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord.”

An interesting note is that Cassandra is a character very well known for taking on the mantle of Batgirl. However, if we’re to believe all the rumors, it sounds like Batgirl is something Warner Bros. hopes to tackle after Birds of Prey — will this be the iteration of the character they go with instead of Barbara Gordon (who could take on Oracle)? That would be a twist on the character I’m not sure fans would like to see, but who knows, right?

There is no word as to who the villain is of this film just yet, but given all the fanservice we got from that synopsis alone, it’s not like we need it to be someone huge. Just give a serviceable opponent to these already-beloved characters and you can’t go wrong. The outlet states that, while the rumored Penguin was originally set to be the villain, that is no longer the case.
