Ryan Hurst Joins The Walking Dead As Beta

TheWrap is reporting that actor Ryan Hurst, who is probably best know for playing Opie Winston on Sons of Anarchy (though to some he will always be Gerry Bertier from Remember the Titans) has joined the cast of AMC’s The Walking Dead for the upcoming ninth season. Hurst will be playing, Beta, the number two in command of the group known as The Whisperers, and is also a personal body guard for the group’s leader, a role in which actress Samantha Morton was recently cast.

I’m gonna let the Emperor express my thoughts for me on this one.

Hurst was great in S.O.A. as he is in most of the projects he takes part in. His stature (standing 6’4″) should make it easy for him to turn Beta into the imposing and aggressive for NBA player from the comics .As I’ve said many times before and I will say again, The Walking Dead simply isn’t the show it once was. With Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan leaving the series at some point during Season 9, I am pleased the show is bringing in what is to me, a familiar face.

In the comics, Beta is extremely loyal to Alpha and her set of rules. He is also highly protective of his face and wears a skin mask at all times.

The Walking Dead returns October 7.
