Ryan Reynolds Cast As Detective Pikachu

Ryan Reynolds thought he had a phenomenon on his hands when he hit it big with his passion project, Deadpool, but boy, he has no idea what awaits! (Lots of younger fans, at the very least.)

Ryan Reynolds has joined the cast of Detective Pikachu, as, well, Detective Pikachu himself, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Not only will Reynolds be voicing the most popular of all the Pokemon, but THR also reports the role calls for motion capture. I can see the Deadpool/Pikachu memes already…

Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies) are also a part of the film’s main cast. After Smith’s character’s father is kidnapped, the teen must team up with Deadpool… I mean Detective Pikachu… in order to find him. Newton plays a sassy journalist who helps them on their adventure.

Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) is directing the film, which will start shooting mid-January in London. The film is written by Alex Hirsch (Sony’s Animated Miles Morales Spider-Man Film) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel) and will be released by Universal everywhere but Japan, where Toho will handle distribution.

No release date is set as of yet.

Are you excited to hear the voice of your favorite Merc With A Mouth come out of a silly yellow Pokemon? Are you more or less interested in Detective Pikachu due to Reynolds’ involvement? Let us know in the comment section below!
