Ryan Reynolds Celebrates Fox’s X-Men Day On Twitter, Calls Deadpool Greatest Gig Of His Life

This July marks 19 years since the Marvel comics characters the X-Men made their debut on the silver screen. Bryan Singer’s 2000 Fox hit X-Men was only the second successful Marvel character film (Blade was released by New Line Cinema in 1998) in a genre that had recently been dominated by two DC franchises, Superman and Batman. Since them, Fox Studios has churned out 11 X-men related films, grossing over $5.7 billion worldwide. With two films being released this June (Dark Phoenix) and next April (The New Mutants), 20th Century Fox decided to make May 13th “X-Men Day” to celebrate what will be 20 years of X-men films under the Fox banner.

Taking part in that celebration is an individual who portrayed one of those famous mutants in three different films, Mr. Ryan Reynolds. Through Twitter, Reynolds reminisced on his time as the “Merc with a Mouth” Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool.

“Happy #XMenDay. Since the moment I first put on the suit, it’s been the greatest gig of my life. Even ‘Practice Deadpool’ in 2009.”

In true Reynolds fashion, he finds a way to pay respect to a character he’s made his own and point out the horrific adaptation that was presented in his flawed X-Men Origins: Wolverine debut. Luckily, Reynolds was able to resurrect Wilson from the ashes of that project and generate a hilariously entertaining duo of fourth wall-shattering Deadpool tales.
