Ryan Reynolds Teaches You How To Be Detective Pikachu

Yeah, I know. You’re thinking it. I’m thinking it. So let’s all just admit that we all want to play Pikachu in the upcoming film Pokémon: Detective Pikachu film. Sadly, the one who landed the job was none other than Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, who — let’s be real — only landed the job because of nepotism. Luckily, Reynolds realizes this, and is giving us tips on how he preps to play the electric mouse Pokémon.

In the new video, Reynolds shows us some easy steps to take on how to prepare just like him. You start off with a black stencil (which you can find at any movie studio). You then put a bunch of dots all over your face and then act your heart out. From there, you send your video over to an award-winning VFX studio and let them work their own magic. It’s pretty easy, so it’s a wonder why we all aren’t doing this on the regular.

Below is the official synopsis for Pokémon: Detective Pikachu:

“The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.”
