Series Based On The Dresden Files Novels In Development

The Dresden Files, a series of novels written by author Jim Butcher, has been optioned by 20th Century Fox. The studio plans to develop a series based on the novels. The show follows Harry Dresden, who is a private investigator, and also a wizard that investigates supernatural cases involving everything from ghosts to fairies to vampires while living in present day Chicago.

This of course won’t be the first time this idea has been tried, as the Sci-Fi (now SyFy) network had a series back in 2007 that starred Arrow actor, Paul Blackthorne as the titular character. The previous small screen incarnation only lasted one season that consisted of 12 episodes.

While it was over a decade ago, I do remember watching the Sci-Fi show. It wasn’t great but I really liked Blackthorne in the role, as well as the idea of a wizard P.I., so I continued watching in hopes it might get better. I think there is really good source material here and that a kick ass should could be achieved with the right people involved. The Dresden Files began back in 2000. The series includes 15 novels with the most recent release coming in 2014.
