Shazam 2 NOT Officially Announced, In Spite Of Rumors [UPDATED]

After the big shake up at DC Studios, Zachary Levi gives an update on his DCU status going forward.

UPDATE: ComicBook.com is reporting that no official announcement regarding Shazam 2 has been made. That being said, the film is likely still happening — and happening soon.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The DC Extended Universe may have gotten off to a shaky start with films like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. While I personally like those movies, most people did not. They were critically-divisive, and the fandom seemed to loathe them all the more. But, several films later, they seem to be on the road to redemption. Movies like Wonder Woman and Aquaman did great financially, but it wasn’t the only hit.

While Shazam! didn’t make gangbusters at the box office, it was one of their highest-rated films in terms of critical reception. A sequel was inevitable, but it still wasn’t OFFICIALLY confirmed, though screenwriter Henry Gayden was signed on to return as scribe.

Now, it was officially announced at CCXP in Brazil yesterday that a sequel was indeed going to happen. Sadly, there were no production details given, but the announcement made the audience go crazy (in a good way).

Them pushing for a sequel sooner rather than later would make sense, given the need to churn these things out before star Asher Angel got too old to make the Shazam transformation weird. And if this isn’t exactly your thing, don’t forget about the Black Adam film on the way.
