Shazam! Clip – Billy’s Foster Sister Is Bad At Keeping Secrets

It’s so nice to see a movie like Shazam! getting as well received as it is. In the era of tentpole superhero films, it’s easy to assume that the movies have to be $150 million-budget affairs. Sure, you have exceptions like Deadpool, but to appeal to the masses, a sizable budget is needed, right? Not the case with Shazam!, which sports a $90 million budget.

And to me, their marketing has been spot on. More than any other superhero movie out there since maybe Spider-Man, it really shows off the wish-fulfillment aspect of being a superhero, as it shows what could happen if a 15-year-old were to acquire mystical powers. In the latest clip from the studio, they show off some of the troubles one might have…including scaring your foster family.

Below is the official synopsis for Shazam!:

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou). Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).”
