Shazam! – The Film’s Costume Designer Says Zachary Levi’s Suit Wasn’t Cheap To Produce

While Joaquin Phoenix’s upcoming turn as the Joker in a film of the same name, may be the most interesting project coming from DC in years, Shazam! looks to be about as much fun a comic book fan can have in the theater. Zachary Levi will star as the titular character and the film will be directed by David F. Sandberg.

While we know superhero films can have a large budget, would you believe that Shazam’s suit had a price tag of a million dollars? That’s what the film’s costume designer, Leah Butler had to say during an interview with Total Film and what she had to say may surprise you.

“We had to scan Zach’s body and start building the costume even before he started his very strict regime — his diet and working out. Each suit costs, oh boy, upwards of a million? We have ten suits.”

That’s a pretty expensive suit, but a drop in the bucket to what films cost as a whole these days. Levi looks good in the suit, it has a certain tinge of campiness to it that I think is going to work well with the overall tone of the film. I’ve said this before but Shazam! simply looks like a lot of fun, and that alone is enough to get me on board. It’s going to be like the old Tom Hanks film Big, but this time the kid is going to have super powers.
