Silicon Valley’s Martin Starr Hopes Fans S*** Their Pants Laughing In The Final Season (Exclusive)

The end is near for HBO’s Silicon Valley, and over the course of its five seasons so far (with the sixth and final season on the way), Richard Hendricks and co. have gone through innumerable ups and downs. However, at the end of the last season, they had finally attained their goal, locking down a huge office for Pied Piper, and screwing over their competitors in the process. So, what can we expect from the final season?

I had to speak to one of its stars, Martin Starr during a Spider-Man: Far From Home press junket. In the HBO series, Starr plays the Satan-worshipping, dry-humored Bertram Gilfoyle, so I asked him what to expect for this sixth and last season.

“It’s gonna be a big one. We just had table read for Episode 6 of 7. Our second to last episode, and it is, I think the funniest table read we ever had. We had to stop the most I’ve experienced in six years, just for laughter. That’s a good sign. I think we’re going to end on a real good note, and hopefully everybody who watches will laugh until they feel pain in their stomach, but hopefully they don’t s**t their pants.”

When I told him that that wouldn’t be such a bad thing, however, he agreed.

“You know what? You’re right. F**k it. I hope everyone laughs so hard they s**t their pants when they watch our show. Hopefully people’ll be happy the way it ends. I feel like they’re so much pressure on a show that’s ending, especially when you know it’s ending…”

Starr then went on to discuss the difficulty with fan expectations, though gave us a little taste of what we could expect.

“It’ll be the same and different [from what we’ve come to expect from the show], and it’ll end very conclusively. I know that Alec Berg will rack his brain and Mike Judge will make sure the laughs are present, and they’ll make a very strong ending, which I’m looking forward to being a part of. It’s great working for the geniuses.”

From the sound of it, they haven’t had a chance to read Episode 7 yet, so I’m sure there are plenty of surprises that even Starr doesn’t know about. More than any other show out there, I’m astounded by the number of things they’re able to stuff into each episode.
