Even though Solo: A Star Wars Story will be the first Star Wars film to lose money, I enjoyed the world we were introduced to, and hope that despite the poor box-office performance, Lucasfilm makes more films relating to the Star Wars underworld. In Solo, fans were introduced to Crimson Dawn, one of five large crime syndicates operating at the time of the film. Solo director Ron Howard recently spoke with Empire and talked about the possibilities of using the criminals of the Star Wars universe as a basis for future films.
“Potentially one would think it might be kind of interesting to see what a war amongst the Syndicates looks like. There’s nothing concrete there, but that’s interesting territory. In what movie and through which character’s perspective that might emerge… I think everybody feels like that’s rich territory to explore in the movie universe.”

While I think the saga films should keep with the Jedi, Sith, and Force dynamic, I am very open to films such as Solo that are set in the underbelly of the Star Wars universe. Using Maul’s Crimson Dawn, as well as the other four syndicates as a base for a series of mafia films set in space could be very interesting.
