Sources Say James Gunn Hint At Him Potentially Being Rehired For Guardians Of The Galaxy 3?

The James Gunn saga has been an interesting one to follow. When the filmmaker’s tweets from several years back — where he made some very inappropriate jokes — Disney was quick to distance itself from him, firing him from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 less than 24 hours after news dropped. Some might say they were, dare I say, hasty with their move.

In the time since then, Gunn has received a lot of support from actors, fellow filmmakers, and plenty of fans, with a petition breaking 300,000 signatures to rehire him. Additionally, as we reported, the cast of his films all made a joint statement voicing their support for the director and a call to rise up against the weaponization of mob mentality.

But is this actually possible? Can Disney actually turn around and rehire him?

Obviously, it’s hard to say for sure, but according to a new report from Variety, sources are telling them that there has been a “growing feeling” that Gunn could be reinstated. This is especially the case since Disney and Marvel have been oddly silent on who could replace him, given that they’d need to move quickly to find a director a film that shoots this January.

Disney’s Bob Iger is apparently on vacation, and insiders believe that a decision will not be reached until the man comes back to the House of Mouse, which makes sense.
