UPDATE:  Based on updated reports, it appears that the deal is good for one Spider-Man movie and for him to also appear in one other Marvel movie. Only one outlet, Forbes, has stated that the character would appear in more than one other movie in addition to the solo Spidey flick. Thanks for those in the comments who rang for me to correct this.

What else can be said that hasn’t about Sony and Disney falling out over Spider-Man? It sucks. That’s all there is to it. It blows serious chunks. And yet, as much as it sucks, many of us had gone on to accept this as the new reality — a reality where Spider-Man is off on his own and is fighting alongside Tom Hardy’s Venom. It sucked, but who knows, right?

Well, luckily, it doesn’t sound like we have to live in that world…at least not yet. According to a new report from THR, Disney and Sony have struck a new deal. A deal that will have Marvel Studios producing one more Spider-Man film. And that film will hit theaters on July 16, 2021.

That’s right. There’s a freakin’ release date already!

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” said  Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.  “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

There are currently no details surrounding the new deal, so there’s no telling whether or not more movies are a possibility after this one, but we can certainly hope so, right?
