Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Casts Jake Johnson As Peter Parker

Spider-Men. Spider-Men. Sony just cast one of their animated Spider-Men.

CinemaBlend reports from CinemaCon that Sony has cast Jake Johnson as Peter Parker, opposite Shameiek Moore’s Miles Morales.

We are of course referring to Sony’s animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, written by Phil Lord with Christopher Miller producing. You know, the two directors fired from Solo: A Star Wars Story. Or rather, the guys behind 21 Jump St. and The Lego Movie. (That second description sounds far more positive!)

The animated film will focus on Miles Morales’ Spider-Man, but with the title Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, I wouldn’t be surprised if more versions of Spider-Man were cast as well. Hell, with a multi-verse, they could do all sorts of characters like Spider-Gwen, though that would make this movie real confusing, real fast.

You know Jake Johnson from just about everything: New Girl, 21 Jump St, Jurassic World, and The Mummy. Johnson joins a cast that already includes Moore as Morales, Mahershala Ali as Aaron Davis, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis and Liev Schreiber in a yet to be revealed role (though my money is on the villain).

Do you think Johnson’s voice will make for a good Peter Parker? Is there someone else you would have picked? Let us know in the comment section below.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on December 14, 2018.
