If you do not know what Marvel is, then you likely should not be reading this or any comic themed website. However, I can completely understand if you are unaware of Square Enix. I, for one, am fully aware of this great video game maker that has provided me with around 3000+ hours of entertainment since I was about 12 when the first Final Fantasy video game came out. Since that time, I have been a huge fan and have been there on day-one for every release in the series, minus the online versions, up until the most current Final Fantasy XV was released around 2 months ago.
Earlier this week the team at Square Enix teased about an upcoming project, and me like many other people assumed it was some offshoot or addon to Final Fantasy XV. It turned out to be much much more, as we find out this morning that Marvel has partnered with Square Enix to bring us a project, that one must assume to be a RPG, based on The Avengers. Check out this video from the tweet below!
The hashtag here is #Reassemble, and it makes you guess that the title of an upcoming game will be just that. If you check the trailer, it looks like most of The Avengers have fallen and Hulk has busted loose of a containment prison. So with my power of pure speculation, I envision a game where the player becomes a new superhero, in an age where all the rest of the heroes have perished, and must track down the Hulk and the main evil that has set him loose.
Could this be a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)? I would guess yes. I hear both Final Fantasy XI and XIV were subpar entries in the realm of MMO players, and with the success of Elder Scrolls Online and other similar games I am assuming Square Enix wants to get both the monthly income and the instant purchase fees for cool items. What better way than to bring a powerhouse like Marvel into the mix? There is a DC MMO called DC Universe Online, and while I did not like it — the game was very successful. This game was created by Daybreak and Warner Brothers, which is all fine and dandy, but could you imagine Square’s A-Team and Marvel teaming up? It could dominate the industry, with the only problem I can see being just how long it takes to make a game like this. I think it took around 12 years to make Final Fantasy XV and that was just a standalone game. On the upside, the game could be rolled out early and the creators could simply just roll a patch once a week for 4 years.
We will have to wait and see! Would you play this game as an MMO or would you rather see a standalone RPG? Could this even be an RPG? Might this be something in addition to a video game? Square also has some very cool animated films they have made like Final Fantasy: Kingsglaive and Final Fantasy: Advent Children. What do you think?
