No one really wanted a Han Solo movie. Let’s start with that. We all had fond memories of Han Solo and the original Star Wars growing up, but many of us were nervous about the prospect of seeing anyone other than the legendary Harrison Ford take on the task of portraying everyone’s favorite scoundrel. While the tickets are almost guaranteed to sell themselves, the filmmakers and actors involved seem to be facing an unenviable task: living up to any preconceived notions fans have dreamed up over the past forty years.

While many of us may not have wanted this film, we are cheering for its success, nonetheless.

Believe it or not, that time is almost here. The film may be set to hit in mid-2018, but thanks to a new tweet from co-director Chris Miller, we now know that the film has officially begun production under the hilarious production name, Red Cup.

Check it out below!

Two things that are noticeable from the outset. First is the tweet caption: “Han First Shot.”

Yes, it’s the first shot of the actual film that they’re making, but we can’t help but wonder if this is a more-than-passing reference to the age-old debate of Han shooting Greedo first. The second noticeable thing is the title: Red Cup. As I mentioned above, the title is hilarious…but why, you may ask. Many of us have fond memories of drinking out of those cheap, plastic red cups while at parties, though perhaps you’ve never looked close enough to notice that they are manufactured by a company called Solo.

Red cup. Solo. Han Solo. It’s a loose connection, but it made us chuckle.

With production underway, the only question in our minds is whether or not we can expect it to be any good.

On board to bring this task to fruition are writers Lawrence and Jon Kasdan (the former of which is best known for writing The Empire Strikes Back), directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (of 21 Jump Street and Lego Movie fame), and relatively unknown actor Alden Ehrenreich, who will be portraying the young Han Solo.

The talent all seems to be great, and the quality of last year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is definitely encouraging. Let’s just hope they’ll be able to keep up this high bar.
