Star Wars: Kathleen Kennedy Extends Contract With Lucasfilm As President

I’m sure plenty of you will have a lot to say about this.

On the heels of the Solo: A Star Wars Story flopping at the box-office, many fans speculated that Kathleen Kennedy would be stepping down as president of Lucasfilm. There were even reports hinting at the idea that she was on her way out.

Now, according to a new report from THR, Kennedy has renewed her contract with Lucasfilm as president for another three years (through 2021). This means that she’ll be around until at least the start of Rian Johnson’s new trilogy and perhaps even the beginnings of D.B. Weiss and David Benioff’s series of films. She will also be around to see through Jon Favreau’s Disney Play live-action series and most of the upcoming Indiana Jones film.

In short, to me, this sounds like this contract extension gives her the ability to see a lot of things through that she set in motion.

Personally, I think this is good news, as it allows her to keep a steady hand on the wheel and not react to the ebb and flow of fan reaction, as Warner Bros. has done in the past (as evidenced by the two regime changes at DC in just as many years). It also helps that I’ve genuinely liked all the film’s that have been put out under her watch.

Though while some fans may be vocal about the work she’s done on the films, there is no denying their success on the financial and critical front. They are, without a doubt, the best critically-received films since the original trilogy, and with the exception of Solo, have made gangbusters at the box-office.
