Star Wars: New Promotional Images For The Mandalorian Surface Online

As a fan, the next piece of Star Wars related media I am most looking forward to is not Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker, but the Disney + show The Mandalorian. Even though officially we have seen next to nothing, those leaked pieces of footage from Star Wars Celebration piqued my hype levels I must say.

Today we are sharing some promotional images that have appeared online for the show, they show The Mandalorian himself (Pedro Pascal) although helmeted, along with the assassin droid IG-11. Check them out below courtesy of MSW.

When images of IG-11 first appeared, everyone simply thought this was actually IG-88 who appeared very briefly in The Empire Strikes Back, until it was revealed that this droid was a different character. It’s hard to say what kind of part IG-11 will play, but we could look to the EU, which is now all non-canon and re-branded as Star Wars: Legends. It may be foolish to do so, but there is precedence for them canonising some of that content, like Grand Admiral Thrawn. Well, in the EU novels the IG droids were numerous and murderous assassin droids created in secret, whilst I forget some of the detail I remember that IG-88 went his own way and wanted to be a Bounty Hunter because he liked to kill living things and became a deadly rival of Boba Fett in the process. It would be reasonable to assume that since I feel they are pulling much from the now cancelled Boba Fett movie for this, we can guess a few things here.

I’d say like Boba Fett and IG-88 they are setting The Mandalorian and IG-11 up as fierce rival Bounty Hunters, they just haven’t complicated the plot by using two ‘different’ characters, which for me was an inspired move. I guess time will, but with the footage we have seen and the imaging now being promoted, I’ll guess IG-11 is a constant threat to Pedro Pascal’s unnamed character in The Mandalorian.

It’s fun to speculate, but that’s all this really is at this point. Whilst no official date has been given for the launch of Disney +, it is expected to launch this Fall and The Mandalorian is expected to be one of the launch titles to bring in customers. Take my money now Disney, I’m in.

What do you think of the new promo images, do you think IG-11 Is going to be deadly rival to The Mandalorian? Leave any thoughts you have in the usual spot below.
