Star Wars: Rian Johnson ‘Out’ Rumor Debunked Within Hours By The Man Himself

Last night, while I was fast asleep in bed there was a rumor that took hold on social media that Rian Johnson had parted company with Lucasfilm and that his planned Star Wars trilogy would not go ahead. The rumor seems to have begun at Super Bro Movies. The link to the site here may not work for you, as for me it simply says the page is no longer available, as it has been removed.

There were a lot of fans who disliked The Last Jedi and it felt like a million voices suddenly cried out in pleasure……. And then were suddenly silenced.

Within a matter of hours as the speculation ran rife, Rian Johnson took to Twitter to debunk this rumor completely. Check out his response to a fan (I suspect it was Jammer using a sock account) when asked if this was true.

SuperBroMovies even took to Twitter to apologize for the false rumor.

Well, I know my colleague Seth is going to wake up very grumpy today, as I think he was over the moon when the rumor first broke. I myself was not a fan of The Last Jedi and there were too many situations where I felt Johnson didn’t fully grasp the Star Wars universe and the rules set for it. This aspect may not annoy some fans, but it did me.

That being said, I wasn’t completely averse to the idea of Johnson getting his own trilogy. I mean, it might end up a decent story if he plans it out. Yet, I worry still about his ability to make a movie feel like a Star Wars movie, which is, after all, the whole point of playing in that universe.

Either way, I still don’t think I’ll ever be truly convinced this trilogy is happening until the day the cameras start rolling. If and when that day comes, then I genuinely hope it’s a damn good trilogy and I’ll judge the movies on their own merits. For right now though, we can basically debunk this rumor though as the man himself says it’s garbage and he moves ahead as planned.

If we hear anything else related to this story, rest assured it will be posted at top priority.

Are you happy this rumor was debunked quickly or are you sad it’s not true? Are you on team Jammer/Nick or on team Cam/Seth when it comes to LRM‘s long-standing and never-ending debate about The Last Jedi?
