Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Has Oddly Specific, Potentially-Spoilery Ratings Description [SPOILERS?]

Who ever thought ratings can be so oddly spoilery? Usually, when it comes to these ratings classifications for films, you’re giving pretty generic comments such as “terrifying imagery” or whatever. I can’t say I ever expected to see detailed descriptions of scenes on an official website ahead of the film’s release, as if the rater was simply bragging about seeing the movie before us.

But that’s exactly what’s happened here from the British Board of Film Classification. Here are some of the details that were outlined by the website. Be warned, these could spoil you, so final chance to look away.

Violence

Fights with fantastical weapons include impalements and brief sight of blood and injury. A character’s face is melted by fantastical energy.

Threat and horror

A young woman finds herself alone amidst an arena of sinister enemies, taunted by their leader. A character briefly becomes fanged and demonic.

There is infrequent mild bad language, including ‘ass’, as well as use of milder terms such as ‘hell’ and ‘damn’. There are mild upsetting scenes

I’ve put the more spoilery details in italics. Admittedly, I’ve kept away from super-specific spoilers that have found their way online,  mostly because plot points to really interest me as much as overall execution. However, I’ve been informed by our own Cam Clark that those details fall in line with a lot of leaks that have been spreading across the web.

For my part, I can see the character melting face description as a way for Emperor Palpatine to die. And then, the scene where “a young woman finds herself alone,” I would be surprised if this wasn’t a dream sequence — one that could lead to that evil Rey sequence we saw in the trailer.

Either way, I’m just shocked at the specificity here in the rating. What do you think? Can you make heads or tails of those descriptions? Let us know your thoughts down below!
