You can catch a glimpse in the thumbnail, but check out the full poster below for Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker. I do recall some rumors flying around a week or so ago, that the poster was being held back because it contained a character who would not be revealed until this latest trailer. The fan theory was that Palpatine would feature on the poster, but as you can see, he does not. Check it out.

I’m not sure how much sense it would have really made to reveal Palpatine in the poster, and as we know he doesn’t appear in the trailer either, although, we do see him slightly from the rear and we do hear his unmistakable voice. This has in turn given more weight to the crazy theory that Matt Smith will be playing a younger version of Palpatine or a body host for Palpatine in some way in the movie. I have nothing to add to that theory at this point, I guess we shall have to wait and see.

There is an unofficial image doing the rounds now, and it does show Palpatine from the front, but in the distance and therefore it’s tricky to see much of his face at all. However, enough is there for me to have serious doubts that it is really Matt Smith, and no,  I won’t post that image here for obvious reasons. I should also warn that there is another unofficial image of Kylo Ren and Rey out there in the interwebs and it is an image I would consider firmly in SPOILER territory, so be careful if not checking official sites for any new imagery.

The poster is I think in fitting with the usual Star Wars poster design, everyone on the page with the main leads front-and-center. The entire sequel trilogy essentially revolves around Rey and Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren, so more than even any other movie, this is the movie that’s going to focus on these two characters the most. We do also get to see new characters Jannah and Zorri along with original trilogy favorite Billy Dee Williams, back of course as Lando Calrissian.
