Star Wars: Werner Herzog Teases His Role In The Mandalorian

Disney isn’t messing around with their Disney+ streaming service. We already know they’re going all in on their Marvel Studios streaming series, and in addition to that, they’ll also be exploiting their Star Wars brand. The first series to get such a treatment is none other than The Mandalorian, a series that will chronicle some backwoods planet far from the reach of the Empire.

When it comes to the talent, they seem to be sparing no expense. Working as the executive producer is The Lion King’s Jon Favreau, and we already know they’ll be sporting great directors like Taika Waititi and Dave Filoni. But, of course, there is also the casting of Pedro Pascal to fanboy over. One other big talent they have is filmmaker/actor Werner Herzog, a big figure in German cinema. Speaking with IndieWire, he gave audiences the smallest detail regarding his role.

“Now this is not a secret anymore, a small part, real small part, in The Mandalorian, the Star Wars sequel or whatever you call it. I like to do it because I know I’m good on screen, but only if I have to play a real villain.”

So, it looks like he’ll predictably be playing a villain in this movie. It’s unclear what he means by “real villain,” though. Is he saying he’s a real villain in that he’s mustache-twirly, or is he a real villain in that he’s a bad guy with believable motivations? Sadly, Herzog quickly shifts the conversation in the other direction, and we’re left wondering.
