Start Singing The Doom Song Invader Zim Is Back In August! | Fine Toon

Netflix is about to drop a Nickelodeon nostalgia bomb all over the place in August with Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus! airing a week apart. Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling will drop on August 9th and Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus! will make the long awaited return August 16th. Both these films have been kept under wraps for the most part with many people not knowing when, or even if, they would be coming out changing hands from Nickelodeon to Netflix along the way. Both these shows have grown into a cult following with classic Nick holding a special place in the hearts of “90s kids” which will likely lead to a large viewership boost from these shows.

Nickelodeon started their nostalgia reboot with Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie and have made many plans for their vintage shows to return to save the network as they are currently getting lapped by both Disney and Cartoon Network. However, while the Hey Arnold! follow up was aired on Nick the movement of Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus! over to Netflix signals there might have been a slight change in plans likely based on how to maximize these continuations. In the recent Ask Me Anything Carlos Alazraqui voice actor for Rocko, among many other characters, stated that the change “might be that Nickelodeon really wanted to get the most views with BOTH Rocko AND Invader Zim and perhaps found that Hey Arnold! could have gotten more in this fashion.” So it seems like Nickelodeon is trying to put their content in front of the most eyes rather than just staying content with sticking it on their channel.

While there isn’t much of a plot description other than “When Zim suddenly reappears to begin Phase 2 of his evil alien plan to conquer Earth, his longtime nemesis Dib sets out to unmask him once and for all.”expect the same level of wackiness you remember. These continuations of Nick series are actually faithful to the original material and luckily not just solely a way to be a cash grab and rejuvenate the network. I fully expect to enjoy both Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus! and you should too if you are a fan of these classic cartoons.
