Stephen King’s The Tommyknockers Gets The Exorcist TV Show Creator

Just in case your hourly quota of Stephen King adaptation updates hasn’t been met yet, we’ve got some news that’ll make some of you happy and maybe some of you a bit worried. One adaptation that is currently underway over at Universal is the adaptation of King’s sci-fi horror novel The Tommyknockers, which shows the residents of a Maine town falling under the influence of a buried alien spacecraft.

According to a report from TheWrap, Jeremy Slater — who created the Exorcist TV show and wrote the Netflix Death Note manga adaptation — is set to write the film for the studio, and marks yet another foray into the realm of horror for the scribe. This looks to be a pretty solid fit, considering the source material, but we’re sure there are plenty who may express doubts due to Death Note and Fantastic Four, neither of which were big this with critics.

Perhaps one silver lining for doubters is that James Wan — producer of The Conjuring series — is producing the film under his Atomic Monster banner. Over the years, Wan hasn’t really put out a bad movie (fingers crossed for Aquaman), so I’d very much like to think he’d be there to do quality control on The Tommyknockers. Also involved is IT producer, Roy Lee.

Back in 1993, The Tommyknockers was turned into miniseries on ABC, and given how far we’ve come since then, I think this one is well due for a remake.
