Success For Fans As The Expanse Has Been Saved By Amazon

It was a bit of a shocker when Syfy announced that they were canceling TV series The Expanse after only 3 seasons. The series has been getting a lot of critical acclaim since it began, and when Syfy announced they were canceling the show with Season 3 still on air, many fans started a protest/campaign to have the show picked up by Amazon. The reason Amazon was targeted by fans is because head of Amazon studios Jeff Bezos is supposedly a fan of both the show and the books. The Expanse is based on a series of books by James S. A. Corey, and it really is rather well crafted in my opinion.

Luckily for fans, they campaigned to the right man and Amazon has announced they have picked the show up for their streaming service Amazon Prime. Here is what Alcon Entertainment CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said in a statement about Amazon rescuing their show.

“We couldn’t be more excited that The Expanse is going to continue on Amazon Prime! We are deeply grateful that Jeff Bezos, [new Amazon studios head] Jen Salke, and their team at Amazon have shown such faith in our show. We also want to thank Laura Lancaster, head of Alcon Television for her tireless efforts. We are fully aware that this wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the staggering outpouring of support from the most creative, hardest working sci-fi fans around the world. From reddit campaigns to airplanes, we say thank you. It worked!”

I am personally a fan, though I have not started watching Season 3 yet, luckily it appears so is Jeff Bezos. In the ruthless world of TV, so many shows are not given the time to really develop and yet the very basic ordinary and safe TV shows seem to carry on forever. I call this a big win for serious adult sci-fi drama. As an Amazon subscriber myself I can’t wait to have it available to stream on demand, the first two seasons are currently being shown on Netflix outside of the US and Canada, and I have been waiting on Season 3 arriving on Netflix before I start watching, (I like to binge). Looks like I better start watching for it showing up on Amazon now. The Expanse Season 1 and 2 are currently only available through Syfy in the US and Canada (for now).
