Super Smash Bros. Coming To Nintendo Switch In 2018 With Splatoon Characters!

The brand-new Nintendo Direct has made its way online. While there were plenty of announcements made throughout its 35-minute runtime, one highlight came in the form of Super Smash Bros.

Since the beginning of the year, it’s been speculated that Super Smash Bros. would be making its way to Nintendo Switch, but it was just a question of which form. Would it just be a remake of Wii U version, a special deluxe, expanded version of that and the 3DS version, or a brand-new game altogether?

From the looks of the new trailer released during the Nintendo Direct, it seems like a brand-new game is the direction the Big N has gone with. The trailer opened with what looked like an expansion of Splatoon 2, with an inkling boy and an inkling girl in the middle of a match. The girl is in the midst of chasing down the boy when the screen goes dark. She turns around to see the Super Smash Bros. logo burned into her eye.

While there was no confirmation per se that this would be a brand-new entry in the series, the lack of any reference to it being a deluxe or special edition version, as well as the addition of the inkling kids, seems to be enough for me to feel confident it’s a whole new game. Plus, given that it’s been nearly four years since that last game, it seems reasonable that a whole new game is more than possible.
