Super Smash Bros Ultimate Goes Avengers: Infinity War On Us

Avengers: Infinity War shocked us all this past summer when over half of our favorite superheroes disintegrated into dust. While I may have no illusions about whether or not they’ll be returning, I still haven’t the faintest idea how they’ll go about doing it, which is pretty cool. Well, if you’re sick of waiting, then how about you just play make-believe…with Nintendo’s upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Seriously, though. During today’s Nintendo Direct, in addition to confirming a handful more extra characters, they also showed off a “World of Light” cinematic, which showed off the premise of their new adventure mode, and its morbid tone bears a striking resemblance to what we saw at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.

In the cutscene (which you can check out above), our heroes are united on a cliff, ready to face off against an army of Master Hands when there is an explosion at the core of the assault. Tentacles of light exploded outwards, and one by one, our favorite characters were dissolved into dust.

The only one left to save them all is Kirby, whose mission it is to save the rest of them. It’s a badass-looking cutscene and it sets up a pretty epic-looking adventure mode for the franchise’s latest entry.
