Superman’s Classic Costume Returns In Actin Comics #1000

Action Comics #1000 hits stands on April 18. The issue is the DC Comics debut of writer Brian Michael Bendis, and joining him in landmark issue is an incredible lineup of creative talent that includes Superman director Richard Donner, Geoff Johns, Paul Dini, Jim Lee, Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, José Luis García-López, Tom King, Clay Mann, Jordie Bellaire, Brad Meltzer, John Cassaday, Laura Martin, Louise Simonson, Jerry Ordway, Scott Snyder and Tim Sale.

One of the intriguing aspects of this issue is the return of Superman’s red trunks. The character redesign done for the New 52 Superman, by co-publisher Jim Lee, removed that aspect of the costume. At the time it was a divisive change and many long-time DC fans disliked it. It seems to have been less of an issue or perhaps the seven ensuing years of trunk-less just led people to people they were gone for good. Either way, it will be interesting to find out if there is an in-story reason for the return or if they will just spontaneously re-appear.
