Okay, it looks like this is actually happening. When Terminator Genisys first hit theaters a couple years back, it seemed like the final nail in the coffin for a franchise that had descended precipitously ever since T2: Judgment Day wowed audiences decades back.
Would the series that once defined smart and fun science fiction ever be able to rise again to greatness, or would the studios just let it die in a fire, never to grace the silver screen again? Well, original director James Cameron came back on board to produce with this film, and even teamed with director Tim Miller to help bring it back to its former greatness.

But would this project actually ever get off the ground? We’ve been following it for the past year or so, and yep, it seems to be coming along very smoothly. Now, one of the film’s screenwriters, Billy Ray, recently took to Twitter to announce his excitement on the film getting greenlit.
#Terminator got its official GREEN-LIGHT yesterday.
Production begins June 19.

So unless something unpredictable hits, it sounds like this is a movie that will actually happen. On board to return are both Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger — both in the roles that made them famous. Additionally, Halt and Catch Fire actress Makenzie Davis has signed on to be the new lead of the franchise.
