Terminator: Dark Fate – What Sarah Connor’s Goal Is In The Film

When that first trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate hit the web last week, audiences got to see actress Linda Hamilton return to the role of Sarah Connor for the first time since Terminator 2: Judgment Day. In the first film, she was the target of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800, and in the second one, she worked alongside him to protect her son, John Connor. But what is her goal in this next film? Why does she hop out of that truck and start firing away at the new Terminator (apart from just wanting to save the leads)?

“The principle of our movie is that there’s an inevitable conflict between humans and the intelligent machines that they make,” producer James Cameron told Flicks and the City. “And all [Sarah Connor has] done is kick the can down the road from her future back in the ’80s to our future now in 2019. Judgment Day is right around the corner, yet again. It’s an inevitability. So she’s kicked the can, she’s going to have to try to kick it again and again. The war never ends. So Sarah has become a Terminator hunter. She’s not waiting to be hunted by a Terminator, she hunts them. She’s figured out a way to be there when they pop through time and she just blows their s**t away.”

Well, that’s a little depressing, isn’t it? Cameron paints a pretty sad picture here. According to his logic, Judgment Day is perpetually around the corner, and Sarah Connor has taken it upon herself to keep on kicking that proverbial can down the road again and again. Who knows how many times she’s kicked it since we last saw her.

My hope here is that Mackenzie Davis and Natalia Reyes’ characters hold some key to actually saving humanity. Then again, as fiction and history have proven time and again, happiness is always temporary.
