It seems like whenever someone is cast as Batman in the movies, it causes a bit of an uproar. Fans were not happy when Michael Keaton got the role, then they were pretty happy with Val Kilmer. They were happy with George Clooney (even though it didn’t work at all) and yet unhappy when Christian Bale was cast in the role. Flash forward and we had people campaigning outside the White House to then-President Obama about Ben Affleck’s casting as Batman.
Now we have a new Bruce Wayne/Caped Crusader and, you guessed it, some fans were not happy again. The thing is, the backlash to Robert Pattinson getting the role was nowhere near as bad as it was for Ben Affleck, but it was still there. I do wonder when fans will realize that whenever they don’t want someone as Batman, they end up being a pretty good Batman. Ok, I didn’t like BvS or Justice League, but I didn’t think any of that was Affleck’s fault, in fact, I think he made a pretty great Batman and deserved a better script.

However, here we are with Robert Pattinson as The Dark Knight, and whilst he expected a backlash, Pattinson himself was surprised how mild it really was when he spoke to Variety recently.
“To be honest, it was less vitriolic than I was expecting,” he says. And clearly he isn’t concerned about those against him “It’s much more fun when you’re an underdog. There’s no expectation of you.”
I am personally fully ready to see what Pattinson can do as Batman, I think he is a better actor than the Twilight movies would have you think. I’m also excited to see what Matt Reeves has come up with here. I may love the MCU and Marvel heroes, in general, more than DC, but not Batman, Batman will always be number one for me. Let’s just hope Pattinson nails it and we get more than one or two movies with the same actor this time.
