While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has firmly established itself as PG-13-based enterprise, there was still hope that, at some point, some of the more violent or salacious properties out there would be allowed an R rating. One such movie was rumored to be the impending Black Widow movie. For some reason or another, many fans wanted this to be an R-rated film (probably due to the more grounded nature of the character), and there were even rumors seemingly backing this up.
However, if you were one of those people really pushing for this one to get the R-rated treatment, you may want to adjust your expectations, because it doesn’t sound like it’s going to happen. The Marvel Studios boss himself, Kevin Feige, recently sat down with ComicBook.com and quashed the rumor once and for all. Here’s what he said if the rumor can be debunked officially:
“Yes. Correct. It never was going to be. Somebody writes, ‘I hear it’s R-rated!’ And then everybody writes it up.”

Guilty as charged — though we never did state this was confirmed. It was just the scuttlebutt from other outlets. But I’m glad to hear they’ve finally put a rest to this rumor. It always irked me that anyone would entertain an R-rated film. Disney has never been that company when it comes to their features, and when you have such a cohesive universe, the last thing you really want to do is dilute the brand with a random R-rated film, right?
But what do you think of Feige’s comments? Are you sad to hear Black Widow won’t be rated R? Let us know down below!
