The Complete Star Wars Film And TV Timeline

The Skywalker Saga is coming to an end this year. The Rise of Skywalker will wrap up the nine-film saga and end a story 40 years in the making. There is more to the story than Luke, Vader, and Kylo though. There are dozens of supporting characters that have played important parts through shows like The Clone WarsRebels, and Resistance. There are also upcoming shows like The Mandalorian that will expand on the galaxy far, far away too.

All of this has to fit together in some way though, right? You are correct, and thanks to some sly photographers at this weekend’s D23 Expo we can see how all of these pieces fit together.

Not only do we get to see where all of the films and shows take place on the timeline, but we also get official names for the time periods of each event. Unlike the MCU which uses phases, Star Wars is using ages. we have the Age of Republic, Rebellion, and Resistance. This isn’t the first time these have been used to describe Star Wars time periods as these ages were used in the comics from Marvel. Each age received several issues from the publisher featuring an expansion on individual character’s parts in major events.

This timeline does not account for novels or the comics, which I think have made as many contradictions as the old Expanded Universe but don’t further the story at all, but it does put the Disney Parks Galaxy’s Edge in place. Weird.

Does this help you grapple with the immensity of the Star Wars universe? Does knowing we’re getting two more shows set in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope making a total of five properties (not counting comics and novels) set in that time period upset you? Let us know in the comments below. That last question may or may not be driven by my own anger at the giant blank space after Return of the Jedi that should be filled in more than the 17 years between RotS and ANH. Maybe…
