The DC Universe Streaming Service: Looking Ahead To January And The Rest Of 2019

This past September 15th launched the DC Universe streaming service that gave DC Comics’ fans one place to check out all their heroes. It offers films, TV shows (nothing from the Arrowverse for now), documentaries, DC news and comics. With the new year just hours away, lets take a moment to check out the trailer above that DC Universe released a few days ago teasing what’s to come in 2019 as well as the list they have released with what they are adding to their service in January.

DC Universe New Releases for January 2019

Jan. 1st
Green Lantern: The Animated Series
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

Jan. 4th
Young Justice: Outsiders

Jan. 8th
1/8: All-Star Superman

Jan. 11th
Aquaman TV Pilot (2007)

Jan. 15th
Superman vs The Elite

Jan. 22nd
Superman Unbound

Jan. 29th
Reign of the Supermen

The highlight on this list for me is the long anticipated release of the third season of Young Justice: Outsiders. How long have we waited for this? Well their second season started in April of 2012 and concluded in March of 2013 so it’s been a while. It will feature the return the cast including Khary Payton as Aqualad, Danica McKellar as Miss Martian, Nolan North as Superboy/Superman and Alyson Stoner as Batgirl. Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman continue to serve as showrunners for the series. The team will face new challenges when they take on meta-human trafficking and the threat it creates for the world.

Last October was the release of their first live action original series titled Titans, which just wrapped up a few weeks ago. 2019 will be a make or break year for the streaming service as I think that it’s overall value will depend on how the upcoming original series are received. We have already had a teaser trailers and posters for Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing has been in production and Stargirl has been busy casting their characters. All these live action shows will be making their way onto the streaming service in 2019, which will also include the animated Harley Quinn series starring Kaley Cuoco as the voice of the title character.

Here is the premiere dates for those series according to GWW:

Doom Patrol – February 15th

Swamp Thing – May 10th

Stargirl – August 9th

Harley Quinn – October 11th

Like I was saying before, this will no doubt be a big year for the streaming service with the addition of all these original series, not to mention the fact that now DC animated films will also be added to the service they day they are released on Blu-ray/DVD, starting with Reign of the Supermen at the end of January. Hopefully the service lives up to it’s potential.
