I know, it’s April 1st, and it’s the internet. Like you, I’m walking on eggshells, trying my best to figure out whether or not any piece of news out there is legitimate. I know we’ve reached new lows that even an email I get from a studio is subject to serious scrutiny…but that’s exactly what’s happened to me with this new movie called The Dead Don’t Die — from Focus Features, of all studios. Perhaps it’s the prestigious studio name that’s thrown me off.
The email itself touts that The Dead Don’t Die has assembled the greatest cast ever assembled for a zombie movie — which is red flag number two. Joining the film are Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, Sara Driver, RZA, Selena Gomez, Carol Kane, Austin Butler, Luka Sabbat and Tom Waits. Now, it’s not the cast themselves that are subject, but even the trailer itself…check it out above to see what I mean.
Now, don’t get me wrong, this does look like it could be fun. But it looks about as real as that initial Keanu trailer from Key and Peele a few years back. It’s just so ridiculous-looking that you really have to make a conscious effort to believe it’s an actual movie coming out. It also doesn’t help that I hadn’t heard of this movie before today.
From the look of it, and based on the idea that cult filmmaker Jim Jarmusch is attached to it, I’m cautiously confident that this is a real movie. But what do you think of it? Does it really look like it’s assembled the best zombie movie cast ever? Will it give Zombieland 2 a run for its money? Let us know down below!
