The Disaster Artist ‘Tommy’ Trailer Is Both Hilarious & Captivating

Fans of the hilariously terrible film The Room have been waiting forever for the story behind the story to make it to the big screen. We’ve already seen a trailer for the upcoming The Disaster Artist, and while that definitely showed off the overall premise, this latest trailer goes even deeper.

Rather than try to focus more on the jokes, this “Tommy” trailer focuses on the enigma himself, Tommy Wiseau. It’s incredibly interesting to watch, because in this trailer, it becomes perfectly clear that this won’t just be a comedy with jokes cracking left and right, but it’s really story about an incredibly odd, incredibly insecure man.

Sure, Tommy Wiseau’s actions, accent, and overall personality may bring jokes to the table, but it didn’t feel like they were really pushing for the jokes as much as they were conveying an odd and (some would say) misunderstood personality. It also shows the more dangerous side of Tommy Wise that comes out. It’s notable that Wiseau, as presented in this trailer, lives on his own plane of existence — one where he is the constant victim, and one who provides for everyone at his own detriment.

The Disaster Artist is based on the tell-all book from The Room producer Greg Sestero, and is directed by James Franco.

The Disaster Artist hits theaters on December 1, 2017.
