The LEGO Movie 2 Co-Writer Takes Playful Shot At Ready Player One

Ready Player One is just over a week away from its release. More than almost any other film to date, it is set to become a cornucopia of pop culture. We’ve already seen this through all the various trailers that have hit. Characters like Deathstroke, the Iron Giant, and Batman, have all been shown in the marketing for the film, making it clear that the studio isn’t playing around.

But this isn’t the only big movie coming out in the next year that will feature countless pop culture references. While this year may not feature any new LEGO Movies, one is set to hit next year. LEGO Movie 2 co-writer Chris Miller recently took to social media to poke fun at the comparisons, and the results are pretty hilarious.

“There’s a certain movie coming out w/ a bunch of famous characters from different movies & TV shows & games that all interact in the same shared universe, and let me tell you, it is AWESOME. Yep, THE LEGO MOVIE 2 is coming this February.”

While this could easily feel like kind of a low blow (and I’m sure there are plenty of Ready Player One haters ready to pile on), but we can’t forget that both of these films are coming from the same studio. As such, this thing is guaranteed to be done as a joke.

In addition to The LEGO Movie 2, Miller and his partner Phil Lord are also attached to Artemis, the adaptation of author Andy Weir’s follow-up to The Martian.
