The Multiverse Is The Next Step In The MCU, Says Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige

I don’t know how Marvel Studios does it, but they’ve managed to exceed expectations at almost every turn. Back in 2012, I had no idea how they’d juggle six superheroes in a single film, and they managed to do that incredibly well. More recently, I had no clue how they’d juggle 32 movies in a single film, and they somehow managed that. Finally, I had no idea how they’d close out the Infinity Saga as a whole, but I daresay they did so even more successfully than I could have possibly imagined.

So, the question has always been: how in the world can they possibly top it? How can they create anything that’s anywhere near the scope and stakes as that illustrious 22nd film? Well, the solution isn’t necessarily to go bigger and bigger, but go sideways.

“The multiverse is the next step in the evolution of the MCU,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told fans at CCXP in Brazil, “and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is gonna crack it wide open in ways that will have repercussions for a Disney+ series just before it, that’s not WandaVision, and for movies just after it in a big, fun way.”

Of course, we already knew that the multiverse would be opening up in that film, but it appears as though the movie will be quite the important one indeed going forward for the franchise. Couple that with Loki, a series that will follow the god of mischief from a different timeline, and it becomes clear that the future is sideways.

What do you think of Feige’s comments regarding the future of the MCU? Does it make sense that this would be the direction they go in, or do you think going deeper into space is the better way to go? Then again, I guess they’re likely going both.
