The Nutcracker And The Four Realms Final Trailer Hits

It may still be summer, but already, our eyes are pointed to the cold and snowy holiday season — especially when it comes to films. With the holidays right around the corner, marketing for those movies is starting to come into full swing, and one such film is Disney’s upcoming fantasy epic The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.

We’ve already seen a couple trailers for the movie so far, and while this one may be their glossiest and most interesting to date, I can’t say it’s doing much to reel me in. As it stands, it feels very much like a “safe” kind of story for Disney to tackle in live-action. It’s visually amazing, it features a young female lead, it features a fantasy world, and it’s based on well-known source material.

Sadly, in checking all these boxes, it also manages to look a bit too safe, and a bit devoid of any real life or unique essence. I certainly hope I’m wrong, but unless the film is exceptionally good, I could see this going the way of A Wrinkle in Time. Here’s hoping that co-director Joe Johnston was able to bring some of his trademark fun into this film to bring out something exceptional and unique from the story.

Below is the official synopsis for The Nutcracker And The Four Realms:

“All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston, and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale.”
