I think we all assumed that the Billy Russo character would be back in The Punisher Season 2. If you remember he betrayed Frank Castle and was badly scarred by Frank at the end of Season 1 of The Punisher. We all expected this would cement Billy’s transformation into Jigsaw, a classic Punisher villain from the comics. There was a lot of blood when Frank smashed his face into that mirror, it looked nasty.

My first thought, well they really didn’t want to spend too much money making actor Ben Barnes look ugly for The Punisher Season 2 did they? Got to be honest, I think I’ve had worse shaving. Ok maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, we can see his scars, but he’s hardly Jigsaw is he? In fact he doesn’t look much worse than Frank in this photo.

Let’s have a look at the version of Jigsaw used in the low budget Punisher movie Warzone:

That’s what I was expecting in Season 2, not someone who looks like they’d be fine with a little bit of surgery.

I enjoyed The Punisher, but at the same time I felt it needed a lot more action set pieces. Daredevil aside I am consistently fairly disappointed with Marvel’s current Netflix output. It’s all starting to feel a little cheap and formulaic to me, Luke Cage bored me no end, Jessica Jones was vacuous without David Tennant’s Kilgrave, Iron Fist had terrible fight choreography and The Defenders was just too slow for me. Whilst I did enjoy The Punisher, the character worked much better in Daredevil Season 2 in my opinion.
