The Russian President Has Been Kidnapped In The New Hunter Killer Trailer

“An untested American submarine captain teams with Navy SEALs to rescue the Russian president, who has been kidnapped by a rogue general.”

Starring 300’s Gerard Butler, John Wick: Chapter 2’s Common, and The Dark Knight’s Gary Oldman; Hunter Killer has released a dramatic action filled trailer. It looks like we’ll be getting a heavy dose of American – Russian themed political intrigue with this film.

Hunter Killer is being distributed by Summit Entertainment which I think is a good sign as Summit’s track record includes releasing The Hurt Locker on June 26, 2009, and RED released on October 10, 2010.

Butler’s last outing was in the underappreciated Den of Thieves, released on January 19, 2018. I recommend checking the film out if you haven’t already viewed it. If you’re a fan of heist films like Michael Mann’s impeccable film Heat, or heist based games like Kane and Lynch: Deadmen, then you’ll certainly feel a little warm and fuzzy watching Den of Thieves. Watching him chew into some dialogue in that film made me remember how badass Butler was in his portrayal of King Leonidas in 300. I mean what is more epic that kicking Persians into wells whilst growling “This is Sparta.” Hopefully Hunter Killer will offer some classic swaggering Butler laying into enemies and shouting “This is America”. One can hope, but I do hope this film turns out alright, as underwater battles in submarines hit my geek spot.

Hunter Killer hits theatres this October. How will it fare against films making their October debuts such as Venom, Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween, Mowgli, and Halloween? Only the box-office will tell.
