‘The Wall’ 2017 DVD Review

GenreVerse Presented By LRMonline V2

The Wall is a psychological thriller that pits a U.S. Army spotter versus one of the most deadly Iraqi insurgent snipers in the middle of the desert.  Directed by Doug Liman and written by Dwain Worrell this film takes place in 2007 and follows a sniper tandem played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and John Cena led into a trap by an Iraqi sniper.  The duo are sent to investigate an insurgent attack on a pipeline construction site only to find that it was a trap set up by the most deadliest Iraqi sniper in history.    The majority of this movie takes place in a single set with Aaron Taylor-Johnson hiding behind a wall from a deadly sniper that has mortally wounded his partner.  With his radio shot and low on water it becomes a battle of wits and time for survival. At the end of this movie you will feel more exhausted than anything else and that is what Doug Liman wanted to do.  The Wall does a great job of putting you right in the action and takes you on an intense trip of survival.  The DVD doesn’t come with a lot of extra features but the content that does come with it is very insightful.  There are three featurettes that accompany the movie the traditional Audio Commentary, “Facts from the Front Lines: A Visual Journey Thorough The Wall”, and a Behind-the-Scenes Vignettes. ·

Audio Commentary with Director Doug Liman and Actor Aaron-Taylor Johnson

I will be honest I have never been a fan of the Audio Commentary sections in DVD’s, because they are usually filled with director or actors comments that don’t really add anything to the story.  In this case Doug Liman does a great job of giving insight on the process of making this movie.  With Liman and Johnson’s comments it adds a new depth to the movie after you have watched it.  If you’re watching the movie multiple times I highly recommend putting on the commentary once and it will boost your experience. ·

“Facts from the Front Lines: A Visual Journey Thorough The Wall” Featurette

This featurette is a composition of visuals and text telling the audience different aspects of how the movie was made from set construction, casting, and recruiting legendary sniper Nicholas Irving “The Reaper” to be an advisor for the film.  ·

Behind-the-Scenes Vignettes

The Behind-the-Scenes Vignettes is a great illustration of how the movie was made.  With an extremely low budget and tight shooting schedule of 14 days this vignettes shows you how Doug Liman was able to get the most bang for his buck. Overall this movie was a different experience from the rest of the war movies I have seen recently.  Doug Liman does a great job of putting the audience in the movie and going through the suspense of surviving.  Dwain Worrell’s script brings depth to a movie that only has one actor on screen a majority of the time.  This is a movie that for any war movie buff they will want to add to their collection and also for the moviegoer who enjoys the non-traditional war movie.

From the acclaimed director of Edge of Tomorrow comes the deadly action thriller, The Wall, arriving on Digital HD August 1 and on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD), DVD, and On Demand August 15 from Lionsgate. Portraying U.S. military sharpshooters, Golden Globe® winner Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Best Supporting Actor, Nocturnal Animals, 2017) and WWE Superstar John Cena (Trainwreck) star in this nail-biting game of cat and mouse that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats until the final shot is fired. The Wall is a deadly psychological thriller that follows two soldiers pinned down by an Iraqi sniper, with nothing but a crumbling wall between them. Their fight becomes as much a battle of will and wits as it is of lethally accurate marksmanship.  The home entertainment release of The Wall includes audio commentary with director Doug Liman and actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, a “Facts from the Front Lines: A Visual Journey Through The Wall” featurette looking at the making of the film, and four behind-the-scenes vignettes from the theatrical release of the film. The Wall will be available on Blu-ray and DVD for $24.99 and $19.98, respectively. BLU-RAY/ DVD/DIGITAL HD SPECIAL FEATURES ·
