Hugh Jackman’s time in the X-MEN universe is coming to a close. Viewers got a lengthy glimpse of him in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, and that mean’s we’ll only get to see the mutant in one more film — THE WOLVERINE III — before he calls it quits. Producer Simon Kinberg has expressed his desire NOT to replace Jackman, and unless the filmmakers get some serious pressure from the suits at Fox, this may mean THE WOLVERINE III may very well be the last time we see Wolverine for a very, very long time.

Fox is undoubtedly aware of the ticking clock, and perhaps may be hard at work at setting up a successor of sorts to the adamantium claws. A recent casting call from Fox may potentially be looking to a certain X-23. First discovered by “That Hashtag Show,” which describes someone eerily like X-23. Take a look at the extensive description below.

“11 to 14 year-old girl. Still a child, but a wounded badass, a pound puppy, raised in captivity in a time of battle, without support systems of normal childhood. She has no family and until now, has never left the compound in which she was born. She has an authentic intensity – her expressions & body language speak volumes, without words. Once released in the outside world, everything is new – every experience and every image a first. This does not mean everything is wonderful or wondrous. Some things she sees (things we might regard as conventional) may scare her or anger her and things we may find interesting may bore her. She has not been instructed in many social conventions – she can eat like an animal. She studies and often mimics people’s behavior. She has a high IQ, but is also a temperamental, impulsive and feral creature that can raise genuine mayhem. She is a girl that has never been kissed. Looking for a REAL girl – not made up or done up. Also with genuine edge, not made up or put on. Martial arts or gymnastics experience preferred but not necessary – but actress must be extremely physical and able to improvise scenes without necessarily resorting to speech. Do NOT play it “cute”. If you think your child has got what it takes be in touch and I shall pass on the Casting Directors details!! This is a great opportunity for someone!!”

For those unfamiliar, X-23 (a.k.a. Laura Kinney) is a product of a program that tried to clone Weapon X (Wolverine), and eventually succeeded with her — the 23rd attempt, hence the name. Once created, she was trained, and eventually became an assassin of sorts, but I’m getting ahead of the story a bit. The point is that Fox is looking for a female to play a tough girl who has the capacity to kick some serious ass.

Given that Wolverine’s time is coming to an end, it would make sense that Fox would turn to the closest thing — X-23, who also eventually takes up the Wolverine mantle. Sure, Jackman is a tough act to follow, but it sure beats re-casting the character. Of course, this is all speculation. For all we know, Fox could really be looking for someone to play a character named “Zoe” in a film unrelated to THE WOLVERINE III, but if Fox wanted to introduce the character for future installments, this would be the time to do it.

Age 11-14 may seem a bit young, but nowadays studios need to start casting their actors young to ensure their longevity, and if they cast her at 14, she’s bound to stick around for some time.

What do you think of this casting call? Do you think it’s X-23? If so, do you think Fox is contemplating replacing Logan with Laura Kinney? Let us know your thoughts down below!
